Carrie Jo Diamond
Chair • Community Outreach & Education Director
Carrie Jo is a Redding native, Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran, sociology graduate from CSU Chico, and a grassroots organizer for the local LGBTQ+ community. She is one of the founding members of NCOP and has served as the Outreach Director for the past three years. Her focus is on public outreach, community education, and social networking. Carrie Jo helped to revive the local PFLAG chapter, start-up the transgender support group known as GenderQuest, and created what would eventually become the social outreach branch of NCOP, OUTlook. She is currently working to develop services for local LGBTQ+ youth, including Safe Zone and a NCOP youth group, as well as Ally education programs for local social service agencies and other compassionate members of the Redding community.
Public Relations Specialist
Don Yost is a retired teacher and a previous member of the Matson Mowder Pride Alliance (the LGBTQ+ rights group named after Gary Matson and Winfield Mowder who were murdered in Happy Valley on July 1, 1999) and a member of the planning committee for the Celebration of Life and Diversity (a group which for ten years planned events memorializing Gary and Winfield).
Don is a Redding volunteer field leader of Equality California and formerly was the chair of the local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. He is one of the founders and a facilitator of the local chapter of PFLAG.
Ethan is a northern California native, a loving father & a dedicated teacher. With more than a decade of experience teaching and working with special needs youth, Ethan has developed a passion to help communities at large. Working for multiple non-profits, conducting trainings and workshops, Ethan’s passion has been to teach others to help them succeed. With his passion for the outdoors, his love for his family, and his dedication to helping others succeed, Ethan is a great addition to the NCOP team. “I am excited to be a part of the board; to create a sense of community; to help bring people together in a safe, all-inclusive environment; that’s where my passion is”.
Janice was born and raised in New York City and received a Master of Social Work Degree in 1980 from Fordham University. She worked for 23 years for Shasta County Health and Human Services/Children and Family Services investigating allegations of child abuse and in the Adoptions Unit, always supporting LGBT individuals and couples to adopt children in Shasta County. She has been involved in PFLAG for the past year and participated in many LGBT Pride events. Janice continues to be involved with environmental groups concerned about climate change and clearcutting our local forests. She is a member of the Wintu Educational and Cultural Council and is actively involved in the preservation of local Native American culture.
