I was born and raised in Shasta & Tehama Counties and have strong ties and commitment to the community. I am a former small business owner and current educator. The passion to support our LGBTQIA+ community has grown out of my own experiences as a teen in our counties and schools and now as an educator working with a new generation of teens who are experiencing a feeling of unsafe environments and lack of support from adults. My commitment to the NCOP is driven by the desire to create an inclusive community for all members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Christina is Bay Area born, Redding raised and graduated from Central Valley High School. She spent 9 years as a medic in the United States Army and has a B.F.A in Screenwriting for Motion Pictures & Television.
Since coming back to Redding in the mid aughts, she has volunteered her time toward community improvement in numerous ways including as a Shasta County Grand Juror and by working with youth through various non-profits on campuses such as Pioneer High School, P.A.C.E Academy and in the Shasta County Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility. There she created a curriculum under federal grants teaching young people how to embrace their stories. She also wrote about her time with her students and mentees as an opinion blogger for the Record Searchlight where she also covered topics such as poverty, community belonging, local youth gang activity and juvenile justice reform which played a role in informing county leaders.
Starting in 2016 she served as an executive for her family's foundation named after her father Charles who passed in 2014. The Charles Candelaria Memorial Foundation assists those seeking careers in the construction skilled-trade through scholarships, financial assistance, tools, and workshops including a yearly youth summer camp alongside the City of Redding called The Nuts and Bolts of Construction.
Before being selected as the new E.D., Christina came to NCOP in May of 2023, recruited and accepted onto the Board of Directors. After which she began volunteering, first at Pride that year, and then onto serving day to day needs at the center. She is passionate about helping people find deep meaning in their stories, overcome their circumstances, and turn tough narratives into those of hope and success by connecting them to the community and resources they need to thrive and meet their goals. While having done this in many capacities over the years, coming home to her own beloved LGBTQ community to serve alongside, and receive love and support from chosen family is a great honor to her.

Hello! My name is Gavin Talavera, I am a member of the board of directors for NCOP. Hello, my name is Alicia and I am thrilled to be a part of the NorCal Outreach Project! I have been working in the community as a volunteer, coordinator, and activist since I moved to Northern California in 2016 intending to create a positive change for social justice issues in rural areas. In my youth, I struggled for many years to feel comfortable in my body and identity during my battle with mental health and other traumatic experiences. I moved away to pursue my education and graduated early from Sonoma State University to obtain my BA in Sociology with distinctions and a minor in Women and Gender Studies. I found myself back in Northern California and wanted to support others who have had similar experiences as me with my newfound knowledge and growth!
I have had the privilege of support from family and friends when expressing my sexuality on my journey of self-discovery. As a polyamorous BIPOC pansexual woman (a mouthful I know), I recognize this is not everyone’s experience, and since have become an advocate for queer youth and those a part of our beautiful community. When I am not at protests, community events, teaching, or doing public speaking for women’s rights you can probably find me reading, creating art, watching a good documentary, or spending time out in nature with my partner.
Looking forward my goal while serving the community is to keep fighting for gender equality and equity. I want to help create a safe space to inspire future activists and advocates and uplift queer voices. With the support of NCOP, I know we are capable of creating an environment where others feel seen and accepted for exactly who they are!
